I have this to say about Dead Cat Bounce by Norman Green.
A grift is when the target hands over their money both knowingly and willingly, and walks off thinking they got the better end of the deal.
A grift is not when the target is lured into your territory with their wealth so that you can take it off them without their knowledge.
A grift is definitely not when the target is left with the opportunity to discover your theft at any moment, and come after you when they do.
The latter form of theft does not reqire a five-man cast and an elaborate script. All it requires is a mask and a firearm. There's no story in a crime which requires only a mask and a firearm.
I regret having read a book which tried to create one.
